Sand Creek Storm Detention Basin
CEL, along with their sister company Geosphere Consultants, performed the quality assurance earthwork field and laboratory testing for this large flood control structure.
This flood control project included the construction of a zoned embankment dam, Saddle Dam, inlet works, outlet works and spill way structure.
Due to the height and storage capacity, this project fell under the oversight of the State of California Division of Dam Safety (DSOD). This project required extensive laboratory and field testing of soils, concrete, and cement treated base rock. The project’s geotechnical challenges included correct classification and identification of zoned embankment borrow materials, repair of extensive landslides, and compliance with stringent DSOD requirements.
CEL provided laboratory and field testing of soils as well as testing of concrete treated base rock, reinforced concrete, shotcrete, anchor installation, masonry grout, and adhesive anchors.
