Consolidated Engineering Laboratories is providing materials testing and special inspection services for the renovation and extension of the Oakland Airport Terminal 2.

Construction began in the spring of 2004 on the remodel of the existing Terminal 2 building and concourse to accommodate Southwest Airlines' expansion and additional security measures. Additions include new ticket counters, passenger screening, baggage claim facilities and public restrooms. Our scope of service for this part of the project is reinforced concrete, masonry, and epoxy grouted dowels inspection.

The terminal is being extended to the south, adding five gates for domestic use and 108,000 square feet on two levels. The project consists of the addition of a single-story concrete mechanical building that will house the electrical/mechanical plant to serve the renovation and expansion, for which CEL is providing reinforced concrete driven piles, and high pressure pipe welding inspections; and a site utilities relocation package that consists of utility upgrades, demolition of the old rental car parking area and construction of the rerouted Neil Armstrong Way. Inspection services include reinforced concrete, masonry, structural steel welding, fireproofing, driven concrete piles, and mechanical couplers.
