PORT OF OAKLAND BERTHS 55, 56 & WHARF
OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA
The construction of Berths 55 & 56 is a key component of the Vision 2000 project. This 2400-foot long
berth required the demolition of old wharf areas and the removal of 2,440,000 cubic yards of soil
excavation. This wharf supports four of the largest container cranes in the world. Consolidated
Engineering Laboratories (CEL) participated on this project by performing soil removal and placement
observation. Precast pile inspection of specially designed steel centered post tensioned concrete piles that
ranged from 58 to 134 feet long, blow count and observation of concrete driven piles, concrete placement,
structural steel welding and all asphalt work.
