MISSION BAY N1
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA
This project is directly across from SBC Park and allowed Consolidated Engineering Laboratories (CEL) to
form a joint venture with a disadvantaged business enterprise to provide materials testing and special
inspection services on this complex concrete project. As a lead partner in the joint venture, CEL coordinated the overall activities of the project quality assurance program, including reinforced
and post-tensioned concrete, masonry, structural steel welding, high strength bolting, insulation, and some
curtainwall inspections. This project consists of two 17-story towers and three nine-story buildings built
on a retail podium with associated parking, and over 70,000 cubic yards of concrete. The project was
performed using a multiple shift operation with much of the concrete placed in the early morning hours
and the utilization of flying forms which caused each floor to "turn" in nine days.
