FOUR SEASONS HOTEL
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA
After Consolidated Engineering Laboratories (CEL) successfully completed the Sony IMAX project, CEL
and the owner negotiated the contract to provide materials testing and inspection on the new 38-story
Four Seasons Hotel site adjacent to the Marriott. CEL's scope of services was a complete materials
testing and inspection scope, from the shoring and underpinning all the way to the topping off of the
structural steel. The building is composed of 14,000 tons of structural steel which was fabricated over an
11-month period at PDM's Stockton facility. CEL performed 100% ultrasonic testing of full multipenetration
welds and 50% magnetic particle testing of fillet welds. In addition, CEL performed
inspections on all six mat foundation pours and all concrete throughout this structure. CEL was accepted
for this project because of their ability to react to a highly pressurized construction schedule and act as an
aid to help the contractor achieve his schedule.
