Consolidated Engineering Laboratories provided all materials testing and special inspection
services associated with this six-story structural steel frame building. Building QB3 is the
Biotechnical and Medical Engineering School for the UCSF Mission Bay Campus. The
construction of this building incorporates the utilization of buckling brace frame steel
construction built on a driven pile and pile cap foundation. CEL performed structural
steel fabrication inspection including the fabrication of the buckling brace frame braces at SME
Steel (West Jordan and Pocatello shops). CEL also provided soils compaction testing, reinforced
concrete, all field welding and bolting. This structure is being constructed and inspected to
FEMA 353 Class 2 specifications and documentation.
